Christmas appeal

The Water Effect Appeal

Around the world, 1 in 3 health centres don’t have clean water. Without it, staff have to make choices that compromise the health and care of their patients every single day.

In a small community health centre in Talo, Mali, Dr Martin Kone and Matron Salimata Dagnoco treat patients from seven surrounding villages, accounting for more than 5000 people. Every day they deliver babies, treat injuries and illnesses and try to avoid sending patients to the extremely costly hospital 85km away.

They do all of this without clean water – to wash their hands, their equipment, or their treatment room. Despite their determination, their work is limited in such an unhygienic environment.

"We do not have any water, but if we did we could wash the health centre every day. Right now we cannot ensure we are meeting all the hygiene standards 100%. But we are trying to do our best."
Matron Salimata Dagnoco

Sadly, Talo is not a unique story. But you and your congregation could help change that, by raising money for WaterAid this Christmas.

Help us deliver vital clean water to health centres and patients when they’re at their most vulnerable – when they are sick or in labor, seeking treatment and care.
